Sandy Risdon, M.A., M.S.W.

Senior Case Supervisor

Sandy Risdon, senior case supervisor at the Center for Health Care Rights, is a registered Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) counselor, community educator, long-term care counselor, and long-term care educator. She previously served as the Center’s HICAP Manager. In those capacities, she has educated thousands on their rights and options under Medicare and related health insurance coverage.

Sandy was the principal author of the Center’s study on implementation of advance medical directives (living wills) by local health care institutions just after the federal Patient Self-Determination Action was signed into law. She was a contributing writer to On Aging, a newspaper column nationally syndicated by the Washington Post Writers Group. Sandy was formerly affiliated with Jewish Family Service of Santa Monica and the UCLA/USC Long-Term Care Gerontology Center.

Sandy has a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Higher Education from the University of California, Los Angeles and an M.S.W. from California State University Long Beach.
