Medicare Coverage of Advance Care Planning and End of Life Care
Each year, millions of older Americans make health care decisions regarding the medical care they receive for a serious or terminal illness. Medicare, as the major health insurance for older Americans, is the primary payer for these medical services.
This training will help you understand Medicare coverage for:
- Advance care planning services: As of 2016, Medicare pays physicians and other health care providers to speak to their patients about their end of life care preferences.
- End of life care: Medicare covers a continuum of health care services to provide curative and palliative care. This training will review the differences between curative and palliative care services.
- Hospice services: the Medicare Part A benefit pays for hospice care for terminally ill Medicare beneficiaries. This workshop will review the distinction between palliative care and Medicare hospice services and the Medicare requirements for hospice care.
